Alright, so I have Windows Media Player 11(The media player made especially for Vista, Correct?) but for some reason, it takes longer to load songs than any of my other media players. Whenever I double click the mp3 file, WMP usually pops up instantly but takes at least 20-30 secs to play the song. The the only time my mp3s load quickly is when I'm using my Wireless Bluetooth headphones. Why is that?

I'm experiencing a similar issue. I had to reinstall Vista on my box, and before I did that, WMP 11 worked fine. Upon re-install, with all updates, I have a WMP that plays video like a slide show. I didn't change any hardware specs from the first install to the latest, and oddly when I move my video to my 2nd display (a tv on a s-video connection on my graphics card) the stutter disappears. Weird.

For Joey, you might look into which graphics card driver your using since that may be causing an issue with video playback.

what's your computer speed, and how big is your mp3 library

wmp11 seems to scan for changes if u have auto folder update enabled and that can eat time if ur mp3 lib. is big

I've only got 1.12gigs worth of music. And my computer's laptop memory is 2gigs.

For example, if you leave Windows Media Player playing for a long time with the Repeat feature on, many handles may be leaked. These handles are leaked every time that Windows Media Player plays a song. In this scenario, the leaked handle count may grow to a large number. Therefore, the computer may become slow and unresponsive."

I had a similar problem. I have a Dell laptop, so when I installed Vista on it, I went to the Dell site for driver updates for my computer. Prior to doing this, my WMP worked just fine, no problems at all using Windows' generic sound card driver, but when I downloaded the Vista driver for my specific sound card and installed it, that's when I started having these problems. WMP would load instantly, but like you said, would take up to 30 seconds before it would even play. Also, when I would click the "next" button to skip to the next track, there would be a 10 second delay before it played the next track. I restored my computer to the date before I installed the sound card driver and haven't had a single problem like that again.

I'm in class right now so I can't get to the website, but I just wanted to say that yes, that's the same thing I have - Sigma Tel High Definition Audio codec. For whatever reason, the Vista driver for it on Dell's website causes these problems. Like I said, just stick with Window's generic driver and you won't have a problem, I haven't.

I still feel that wmp10 > wmp11. I really hate Windows Media player 11. I use winamp for listening to music and VLC player for watching videos/movies etc

Did you try uninstalling your sound driver and let Windows install the generic one? Like I said, I had no problems with the generic one, but the moment I updated to Dell's Vista driver for my sound card, I had problems.

Yeah, WMP10 was fast and nice. While 11 looks good (but on systems not running Aero on Vista, not any better than 10) and has neat library config options, it is sooo much slower. Usually, the "frame" of the app will load, only to wait 20 seconds or so to actually load the UI parts of the library and such.

I'm afraid that if I uninstall the driver, something goes wrong and i won't be able to get the sound to work ever again.
