Changing Font Types in Vista Visual Styles (Hex-Editing)

This is a “How To” guide on changing Font types in Vista Visual Styles.
It is not simple processes so please read the instructions carefully and take your time.
If you are creating a visual style for vista and plan on making many hex-edit changes then I would recommend that you do all the other edits first as this process will add lines into the variant and will change all the known addresses in the variant, therefore making it difficult to locate some of the other useful changes you can make in the variant.
If you wish to make other changes (e.g. Text colours),

Please see my Hex-Editing Tutorial First before attempting this process.
The Hex Editing tutorial can be downloaded from this LINK

IMPORTANT NOTE
This will change most of the font types in Vista. As far as I know you can use any font name as long as it’s listed in your Control Panel / Font Folder.

It is still unknown what bugs may occur with this.

"Description: Resize Taskbar Height

Note: Change Value 04 to a smaller size (e.g 00=22px) There has been reported bugs when the taskbar doubles up,
I found that resizing Image_868 in the .msstyle can fix this."

By resizing #868 do you mean the entire canvas or the three images? Thanks this is great help.

Try re-sizing the canvas to a smaller size.... but unfortunatly this will un-doubtedly cause the 868 start orb to look out of place, so i think its a sacrifice you have to make for having a thin taskbar.

All I know is that I set my taskbar size to 03... I didnt have the double up bug, but i noticed the doubled up start orb (868) was out of position... so I then enlarged the canvas of 868 and BINGO the bug kicked in.
My theory works on the assumption that if you have a 868.png that is too big, it causes the double up bug.

Sorry i cant be more pacific... Please let me know what happens

When you change the text colour of the start menu (I'm thinking left) does it change it for aero and basic or do they have different variants for each?

Oh, i dont know, the left one was donated by Jemaho, and it so happens to be the only one i havnt tried... but i know the right side changes both basic and aero.

Please let all know the answer to your question if you try it anyway

I will do. I was just curious to see if there are seperate entries or just one entry for both.
I might give it a go when I have some time but right now I'm working on other stuff.
Thanks for getting back to me
