Just a little heads up to people who cracked RTM (file swap so the BETA keys work)\

It appears Microsoft has released "Windows Vista Validation Update (KB929391)"
I didn't look... now I have 30 days to activate

Serves you right, sucked in.

I don't see anything bad about this, you didn't pay for it, nor did you serve in the beta, so you deserve getting owned.

It doesnt matter. There were loads of people who were technet TECHBETA testers and yet they didnt get a free copy of Vista.

TechBETA. TechNet isn't a beta.

I wasn't saying I should have got a free copy.
I was merely saying that I DID serve in the BETA.

The CPP was certainly NOT the same as the official Connect beta. Those who served in it actually had to earn the right to get in by testing beforehand, not just get in quick, easy, free and then moan about not getting the full version.

No, but the thing you have to realize about large-scale piracy of software is that it's always going to be a back and forth game...and to think that this is really anything new would be silly, of course. We all have a basic understanding of how things flow from here; Microsoft fires a salvo, the pirates fire one back, and the war never really ends. Pessimistic approach, you might say, but given the history with XP and such, it's really an inevitability.

No, you did not serve in the BETA, you served in the PREVIEW PROGRAM.

As for the update nuking your pirated Vista, all I can say is OWNED, did you really think MS was gonna let that go unchecked?

Microsoft should just leave the common people alone with this piracy issue... M$ doesn't get it's sales from the individual anyways.. M$ makes it's bulk of revenue from corporate sales.. support calls, and various other multi-tier support...

some joe blow that just maxed out his credit cards to build him a top notch system then has to pay $200-$400+ for an operating system is a bit much to expect..

I personaly have no plans to buy Vista.. I'll play the cat and mouse thing until they make an OS that requires you to register part of your DNA to enable the software.... That's when it's time to find a new hobby... Like becoming a small town farmer.. LOL!

First I would like to say, I was in the Beta and I have a legitimate RTM, just to avoid confusion.
Now to answer that, I totally agree with you, but the problem is, like it was for XP, that Pirates will soon come above that with a new circumvolution to that activation problem for those not using a legitimate OS.
