As the title says, I'm noticing this strange problem since first installed WLM8 for the first time, in the early betas. I formatted the HD once in the meantime and it strangely persists.

When I click in Edit/Import Contact list or Edit/Export Contact list, the mouse cursor changes to busy for half a second... then returns back to normal. And no single "Save as..." or "Open" dialog box appears on screen.

Is it normal? Does it need Windows Messenger installed? Because I uninstalled it.

But if it is normal, where WLM stores my contact list on the computer so I can back up it? Today I almost got phished by that fake Office 2007 Trial download page, it scared me to h3ll, I want to be able to back up my list so there's no problems in the future.

TIA. :)

hi mate,
i successfully exported my contacts list and imported it to a new account, with no problems. i can't imagine it requires windows messenger. in fact i am running vista and im not sure that has windows messenger at all.

I can't imagine what it could be... it simply doesn't exports or imports the contact list at all. :(

I just gave it a go then (Didn't even know there was an option to do that :P ), and it worked fine.

8.1.0106 < Version I just did it in.

Pretty sure it doesn't need Windows Messenger installed, because I don't have it installed on 2003.

:(

Anyone have the solution? It doesn't work in XP neither in Vista, I created another WLM account but no avail.

It does nothing at the menu command, and in August I completely replaced my hardware.

If my live.com account eventually gets deleted, I'm screwed... :(

Have you tried WLM 8.5 from mess.be?
It saved fine for me and I'm gonna try importing in a sec.

This is one of those ancient bugs that always gets postponed in the betas.

You can fix it by grabbing and running this .reg file from my site:
http://messenger.jon...contactpath.reg

You don't even need to restart Messenger to see the change if I recall.

would just like to say that that link is not fake or a virus, the fix works so you can safely try it.
