Vista Boot Pro is a GUI from editing BCDedit.exe, Vista's Boot Menu configurating program
This lets newbies and other lazy people to edit the boot menu without running cmd > bcdedit.exe and typeing out all those horrible commands
I seriously don't know what microsoft didn't make a GUI from the boot menu, I even remember asking a question on this in one of the chats, but they simpily said no
AND it has nothing to do with a geniune key, it is NOT a crack, key bypasser and etc.
Windows Vista SP2 (6.0.6002.16497)

You do not need to install VistaBootPro, EasyBCD, or any other tool to dual-boot between XP and Vista. If you did your partitioning right, switching between Vista and XP will be automatically configured by Windows Vista's installer.
Also, if you obtain Windows Vista RC1, build 5600, from the Microsoft Customer Preview Program, you will receive a legit key valid until July 2007 to operate Windows Vista RC1. Don't download the leaked build (or any other build from any other source). Get it from Microsoft. They will provide support for installing Vista and have guidelines and FAQ's on windowsvista.com.

Partioning is dangerous, because you be able to destroy partitions, installed systems and programs.
But - on the other hand - it is easy.
If you will be carefull, all will work like you want.
Take the nice program PARTITION MAGIC. It looks onto your existing HD partitions and you can make
a selection, which partition you can make bigger or smaller and so on.
Vista will work very good, also in a DUALBOOT system or MULTIBOOT!
For example: I have two harddisk in my PC. One has 80 GB and the second 160 GB.
On the first and smaller one I have XP Pro, Server 2003 and Vista 5744.
On the second one I have (beneath other partitions) Vista 5840.
With Vista BootPro 3.1 I have renamed the titles of the boot mgr in:
Vista 5840 TAP
Vista 5744 RC2
So, you may now downloading PARTITION MAGIC and Vista BootPro 3.1 and will beable to get a nice system
for working, playing, and testing.
Have fun...and if something does not work, ask the croud here (or in the other Vista forums) or just me!
I will help you!

i have a partition already in place (came from manufacturer as such)
i will be downloading vista tonight/tomorrow morning.
so just to clarify: i dont need to upgrade, and risk having to reformat if things dont work to get back to xp, but i could just install it fresh into my 2nd partition (presumebly i choose custom install and select location?) and then i can choose between the two?
if i dont like it, is it easy to remove?
also will installing vista have any side effects on my xp installation?
thanks for the help, it must get tiring helping newbs like me, but i appreciate it
