I thought everyone said it was impossible due to the tight integration of dx10 and the driver model, graphics subsystems present in vista, maybe this is just some hack to 'fake it' to games and report dx10 is there when its really not?
someone technically inclined take a look and report back. if it works i know a lot of people will be happy...

Wouldn't a lack of driver support in XP be the main cause? I always thought it was silly to put DX10 on XP when ATi/nVidia would never bother supporting it.

But I'm pretty sure, that Microsoft can make (not to port from Vista) DirectX10 to XP/2K3.
Yes, I know, it's very difficult to port DX10 from Vista to XP, Because WDDM could not be ported to XP, there are a lot of things, like gdi32.dll (D3DKMT* functions) from XP doesn't meet WDDM requirements. But I have ported gdi32.dll to XP from Vista build 5219, but it's too old version, to make WDDM drivers work.
And we (www.lwgame.net) tries to make it work, as a result we have made the 3DMark Vantage start on 2K3 but. not to work due to dxgi.dll exception.
And I beleave, that soon somebody will make DX10 work on XP/2K3!

But is it really that prudent to do so? One of Vista's biggest selling points was its much-vaunted Direct-X 10 support. Porting it back to XP would not only be time consuming, it would also be undermining one of Vista's selling points.
And plus, I haven't seen any significant techniques in video games that can only be done in Direct-X 10 as opposed to Direct-X 9.

No one will do any such thing; it's an utter waste of time. Windows XP as an OS is over 8 years old! People who want to keep supporting it when a perfectly good successor has already come along (Vista SP1) are delusional.

Well in defense of the ignorant delusional people for the most part they are more than likely misguided by false advertising and so on. But to extend what you said, I HATE when people say they "Upgraded to XP!".
