I had this off-topic comment to say:
Thread Cleaned.

As for beta 1's build number, I wouldn't be surprised if it's something like 7000 or 7001.

that sounds about right.

I would assume we'll get much more info at or around CES about timetables and such for the beta/RC/RTM cycles. My guess is something like this (dates are build composition dates, not release dates):

Beta 1- January 5, 2009
Beta 2- February 10, 2009 (Due to unexpected bugs found by testers. One or two major bugs fixed.)
RC1- March 13, 2009
RC2- April 10, 2009 (More bugs fixed.)
RTM- May 1, 2009
General Release- June 18, 2009

Thoughts?

I agree with beta 1, but I dont think there will even be a beta 2. If something else major happens then yeah, but other wise RC1 may come right after beta 1, with RTM afterward around april or may of 2009.

Actually it was already said that 7 would be released june 19th 2009 last i checked.

edit: but yeah i have to agree with your first assumption, .Chris
from the way it sounds we are probably not gonna have a beta 2 or rc2. the way i think of it is windows 7 is nothing like longhorn in terms of stability. all leaked windows 7 builds (except for M1) have so far been pretty stable. 6801: couple bugs, but nothing major. 6936: well havent tried it but from what ive heard its pretty much like a mix b/w 6801 and 6956. and 6956 is brilliant i havent found one bug in it yet. but anyway my point is, most builds are very stable so i dont know if beta 2/rc2 will be nescesary.

Does not look quite real to me.
6956 was compiled on November 22, ten days before this one, and it is from the same branch (winmain) as this shot. It is rather hard to believe that winmain is now working at a rate of 5 builds per day, including Sundays.
If the build number was bumped, and this is pre-beta2/pre-RC1 (with the rest of 69xx reserved for beta 1 escrow), then it should be higher than 7000, as it is fairly logical that Microsoft didn't set e.g. 6993 as the beta 1 target, but instead 7000. If this is a Beta 1 escrow build, then why is it "winmain" (given that even milestone escrow builds were "winmain_win7mX")?

yes they do need an rc build because thats part of the pre-release proccess. its just one of those where even if its not required they still do it. its kinda hard to explain, atleast for me it is. so if anyone wants to add on feel free...

BTW Everyone i just noticed in build 6801 when i apply this taskbar tool made in vb.net that i found (Link: http://www.vbforums....ad.php?t=535149 ) the startbutton area of the taskbar turns to a solid color like m2

Attached File  win7m2_mystery.png (632.62K)
Number of downloads: 36

could this mean that the m2 style is in 6801 and possibly other buils too? and can we somehow access/unlock it...

JustDC

PS - i know that not everyone likes the m2 superbar. but i kinda like it and i know many others do too. but i mostly like it 'cause im a big collector of betas and such so its kinda like a collectible. if you know what i mean...

Peace!

Could you upload a compiled version of that.

Also it's using the normal taskbar's basic image. So it looks like the M2 superbar.

It does the exact same thing on Vista as it does in that screenshot. Merely just adds a white-black gradient behind the start button.

Reason? Nothing to do with Windows, to do with how it's been programmed.

	Private Sub cmdClearTaskBar_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdClearTaskBar.Click
		Dim g As Graphics = Taskbar.Drawing.Graphics(Taskbar.Drawing.tbHandles.TaskBar)
		Dim rect As New Rectangle(0,0, Taskbar.General.Width, Taskbar.General.Height)
		Dim lBrush As Brush = New LinearGradientBrush(rect, Color.Azure, Color.Black, LinearGradientMode.Vertical)

		g.Clear(Color.Black)
		g.FillRectangle(lBrush, rect)

	End Sub
